Three state colleges of Lithuania reorganised

In order to implement the provisions of Article 28 of the Education Law of the Republic of Lithuania and after assessing the potential of state colleges, national and regional economic development and labour market needs, in January 2023, the Government of the Republic of Lithuania approved the action plan for strengthening the network of state colleges for 2023-2024.

In 2024, the Government of the Republic of Lithuania adopted decisions on the reorganization of five state colleges.

In accordance with the resolutions of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania from July 1, 2024 Alytus college is connected to Kaunas college. Kaunas College of Forestry and Environmental Engineering is connected to Kaunas Technical College. The name of the Kaunas Technical College is being changed from July 1, 2024. The college will be called the Lithuanian Engineering College. Vilnius College of Technology and Design is connected to Vilnius College.

From October 1, 2024, Lithuanian Maritime Academy will be connected to the Vilnius Gediminas Technical University. Marijampolė College will be connected to Mykolas Romeris University.

The reorganization of the network of state colleges is aimed at maintaining a strong core of teachers and ensuring the necessary infrastructure for quality studies.
