For students: what changes after the reorganization of three state colleges? Updated 07/08/2024
As previously announced, in accordance with Article 43, point 1 and 7, of the Law on Higher Education and Research of the Republic of Lithuania, the permisions (licences) to carry out studies and activities related to studies at three higher education institutions – Alytaus kolegija, Vilniaus technologijų ir dizaino kolegija, and Kauno miškų ir aplinkos inžinerijos kolegija – have been cancelled.
From 20 July 2024 Alytaus kolegija have lost its permission to carry out studies and related activities and was merged to Kauno kolegija, to which all the rights and obligations of the reorganized institution Alytaus kolegija passed. Kauno kolegija will ensure the opportunity for students who started their studies before the reorganization of Alytus kolegija to continue their studies at Kauno kolegija. Students who have entered the study programs of Alytaus kolegija before the reorganization and who will complete their studies after the reorganization will be awarded diplomas of Kauno kolegija. Students of Alytaus kolegija who started their studies before the end of the reorganization of Alytaus kolegija will be provided with conditions to complete their studies in Alytus.
Kauno miškų ir aplinkos inžinerijos kolegija merged with Kauno technikos kolegija, to which all the rights and duties of the reorganized Kauno miškų ir aplinkos inžinerijos kolegijaare transferred. The institution that will operate after the reorganization will bear a new name of a public institution Lietuvos inžinerijos kolegija. From 1 July 2024, students of both former colleges continue their studies at the Lietuvos inžinerijos kolegija and students enrolled in the study programs of Kauno miškų ir aplinkos inžinerijos kolegija until the reorganization, will be issued diplomas of the Lietuvos inžinerijos kolegija. All study programs of Kauno miškų ir aplinkos inžinerijos kolegijaare re-registered into the study programs of the Lietuvos inžinerijos kolegija.
On 23 July 2024, the decision of the Minister of Education, Science and Sports came into force, by which Vilniaus technologijų ir dizaino kolegija lost its permission to carry out studies and related activities and is merged with Vilniaus kolegija, to which all rights and obligations of reorganized Vilniaus technologijų ir dizaino kolegija are transferred. Students enrolled in the study programs of Vilniaus technologijų ir dizaino kolegija before the reorganization will continue their studies at Vilniaus kolegija under the conditions not worse than those in which they studied at Vilniaus technologijų ir dizaino kolegija, without changing the essential conditions of their studies (study prices, study subjects, support provided). The learning agreements concluded with the students of Vilniaus technologijų ir dizaino kolegija will not be terminated on the basis of reorganization or due to other circumstances related to the reorganization, they will remain valid.
Additional funding is planned for the reorganisation of public higher education institutions, including:
- for the consolidation of existing curricula;
- the improvement of the quality of studies and research;
- the enhancement of the competences of teaching and administrative staff;
- the optimisation and integration of key administrative and research and study support functions and processes;
- the optimisation of the infrastructure used, etc.
